Visa Information

A visa means an authorisation issued by Cyprus Republic to some third country nationals:

• for a short stay (up to 90 days within any 180-day period) or
• for transit purposes

Currently, visas and residence permits issued by the Republic of Cyprus have only validity for the Republic of Cyprus, while after its full integration into the Schengen aquis, the visas and residence permits issued by the Republic of Cyprus will give the right to free movement up to 90 days within any 180-day period in the rest of the Schengen area.

Family members of Cypriot nationals and other EU national who hold a residence card and their travel document may travel in the Schengen area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Please note that under certain conditions, family members of EU/EEA citizens are subject to the favourable arrangements of the Free Movement Directive and you may be served directly at the Consulate and as a priority when applying for a visa, submit fewer supporting documents and not pay a visa fee.

In particular, this will apply, as long as you can answer in the affirmative to all of the following questions:

A) Is there an EU citizen who exercises the right to free movement and from whom the visa applicant derives any rights?

B) Does the visa applicant fall under the definition of a family member?

C) Does the visa applicant accompany or go to meet the EU citizen?

Mere possession of a visa shall not confer an automatic right of entry. Border authorities at the entry points of the Republic of Cyprus reserve the right to refuse entry.

In case of refusal, the applicant is informed about the decision and the reasons on which it is based in writing. The applicant has the right to lodge an appeal at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Cyprus, under article 146 of the Constitution, within 75 days from the date they received the notification form.
